“Some kind of weakness in the human mind must have allowed this weakness…”

When a toddler first learns not to panic when mummy “disappears” into the kitchen, he understands and expects her to return, and is rewarded with smiles when she returns. This “expectation” and “reward” is the dopamine value system that sets up our ability to acquire skill-sets like surgeons and elite sports players have, and is the basis of intuition and conniption. But in the 1950’s advertisers learnt that this inner eye expectation and reward system can be reversed and dopamine released from our skill sets to give us a one time sugar high at the expense of acquiring skill sets, and the modern chase the dragon mammon was born, by feeding off expectations and redirecting them. In his book “placebo effects” the author makes the point that the beneficial effects of placebo can be easily substituted for monetary pecuniary reward. It is the mesolimbic dopamine pathway that creates the mind of toddlers, which is the weakness you are referring too. Blame Sigmund Freud’s nephew, Edward Bernays.

Mother Nature and Father Time are always authentic. Perfectly authentic. Humans are authentic to the degree that they don't give a crap about what others think and don't require some pretend government leading them around by the nose. Earth = quality while government = quantity since is never seems to stop getting bigger and in our way.

Thank you for following me on X today, I took a look at your website and love your writings. (I found your post about #ManagedRetreat). I loved this article about authenticity so much and am happy to find you on Substack also! Some friends and I run a monthly Facebook live in New Zealand called 'A Matter Of Authenticity' (AMOA). https://linktr.ee/pennymarienz

That's interesting - yes, authenticity is closely tied to truth and is the antidote to the mendacious artifice with which we are constantly assaulted today.

Love that. I ask to see the truth every day, and to be of service. What flows out is authenticity.

The psychopaths are not the problem, the enablers and enforcers are. I think part of it is that too many people of higher calibre, those with a moral compass, courage, integrity, a sense of social responsibility and social duty, who lead by example rather than capricious diktat, have been culled by the psychopaths in centuries of ruinous wars, leaving them a clear and unopposed run at power, enabled by the low grade and otherwise unemployable enforcer trash who serve them.

Unfortunately to live authentically, at least for us non land owners, requires us to live alone and without a home.

There was a recent piece on this substack about common land which I believe is related.

Is an anarchist still an anarchist if they own land or a property [how does that work?]

Even landowners need to pay annual fees not? - while ''squatting'' on vacant land is near impossible due to ''regulations'' then if one ventures well away from ''civilization'' one will encounter the lack of life sustaining resources like potable water.

It's very hard to I concur that there are many obstacles, perhaps join a tribe ?

What tribe? I don't know of such things. I think I am cursed to wander the forests. It's an uncomfortable life but it's real at least.
