"They explain: “By ‘democracy’, we mean a variety of fully functioning institutions such as courts, parliaments, constitutions, and constitutional principles that allow citizens to play an active role in public affairs." — replace "that allow citizens to play" with "that give citizens the illusion of being allowed to play" and the sentence would have bore some semblance of reality.
What a delicious bit of irony and lack of self-awareness is on display on the cover of McAdams and Piccolo's book, featuring the Artzfolio's Tower of Babel painting. Are they not aware that the EU Parliament — that bastion of "liberal democracy" — has its seat in a building whose design is infamously based on the Tower of Babel. The satire writes itself. Either that, or they're very aware and are gaslighting on an Olympian level.
Jordan Peterson, was conspicuously MIA when it came to the Plandemic. John Waters had some interesting things to say about this ... and ARC.
Bottom line is if you want some kind of unity there has to be some kind of general agreement that we are going to leave each other alone. Censorship, weaponization of institutions against dissidents, massive control and regulation of everything. The problem is we are unifying, but it’s around the vision that this is the right way to run a society. It’s always been the creed of the left going all the way back to the progressive era, but it’s being heavily embraced by the right now, take for example the Desantis move in Florida to ban lab grown meat because the WEF supports it. If your enemies want it it’s seemingly your job to ban it.
It’s now been widely accepted that government is a machine to terraform society and punish your ideological enemies. Now we are just wrestling over who gets to control the levers.
There has never been a bigger need for a libertarian live, and let live attitude, and we have never been further away from that at least in my lifetime.
"There has never been a bigger need for a libertarian live, and let live attitude, and we have never been further away from that at least in my lifetime."
Aye, wonderfully stated! The incredible act of linguistic contortion required to claim that censorship is required in the name of 'liberal democracy', that political parties can be de-platformed to 'defend democracy'... all those peccadillos in the academic community that I used to find amusing metastasised in just a few short years into disastrous ideological conformity that associates democracy with its own beliefs, and therefore can savage all others. Such marvellous nonsense, and so narrowly conceived!
As ever, you get to speak to the edges and so can be strident. I'm coming at this issue more gently as I am (I think and hope, but cannot really know...) speaking to the middle and therefore having to proceed with greater caution - it is terribly difficult to hold the centre, as I'm sure you appreciate, because of the tremendous efforts expended on intentional polarisation. Still, this theme is very much the purpose of May's pieces at Stranger Worlds, where I wish (as you do here more directly) to point out that this left-right construct simply cannot be asserted any more without straining credibility. Hence the theme of 'Progress', although I rather suspect these four pieces might be too tame for you, Paul. For myself, I have enjoyed stitching together voices purported to be on both the 'left' and the 'right' into a single narrative.
Wrong think has arrived TRNN will no longer publish any work by Chris Hedges who criticized Joe Biden.
Freedom of expression is under attack everywhere however from memory this is exactly why civil rights groups raised such a ruckus over the secretly negotiated TPP and it's many variants.
Australia now has the misinformation bill but it does not apply to government or the MSM, in other words any valid criticism made by the public can be ''mis''interpreted as misinformation.
Right/left - I used to define right as representing the interests of capital and left as representing the interests of the working class. While this might seem odd now, it would have been standard thinking to your average shop steward in the 1930's. By that definition, the Democrats (to say nothing of the GOP, conservatives, libertarians etc.), liberals, progressives and many socialists would be right wing.
I don't use that definition anymore as nobody knows what I am talking about. It's not left v right, it's top v down!
"They explain: “By ‘democracy’, we mean a variety of fully functioning institutions such as courts, parliaments, constitutions, and constitutional principles that allow citizens to play an active role in public affairs."
Did they conclude that they don't live in such a "country"? Because there aren't any "fully functioning" institutions!
I suspect that they didn't and so... these two are just like the others!
“Liberal Democracy”? Is that like ‘half pregnant’? Redefining words and phrases is a past-time for those rewriting history. Just because it is published doesn’t guarantee it’s validity...
Because you can see through these distortions doesn’t mean that everyone else would... respect yourself first, provide comment, stand by your belief until additional evidence adjusts your current stance.
Democracy is institutionalized “mob rule”. Democracy doesn’t define morality, truth, wisdom, fairness, integrity, right or wrong.
Just look at Ukraine. We were told by our democratically elected president that we needed to support democracy in Ukraine from villainous Russia. Russia just completed an election while Ukraine suspended political parties, instituted conscription, hundreds of thousands have fled and Zelensky’s presidential status will end on May 23rd... without plans for an election. Ukraine or Russia... which one looks more like a democracy?
Great piece! Can you tell me where to find this Glenn Beck quote without having to buy that stupid book:
“They [the left] knew all this stuff. We mocked them. And now we’re standing where they were and we are like ‘guys, you were right. I mean, can’t you see this?’” [16]

People unfamiliar with 1984 might interpret " newspeak" as news speak... And using the word because it's being used a bit more lately....oh, and big brother is a strict, nude summer camp instructor.
Spot on!
A few observations...

The struggle now is about reclaiming humanity and culture, as the latest "organic radical thinker" Jacques Camatte put it.

The Iron Law of woke projection…
Democratic government...an unabashed oxymoron.
